Course Perspective

Just wrapped up the “Strengthening Your Widening Network” course and it’s got me buzzing with ideas. I’ve always been the kind of person who likes to get their hands dirty before diving into any formal training. Certificates? They’re more for the wall than the skill set, if you ask me. But this course? Yeah, this one’s a keeper.

Cross-Cultural Communication: One of the first things we tackled was how to communicate effectively with people from different cultures and languages. Trust me, in a world as globalized as ours, this is gold. It’s not just about saying the right words; it’s about saying them in a way that clicks with the person you’re talking to.

The Right Connection: Then we delved into how to connect with people appropriately. We looked at the 7Cs of effective communication and some theories of intercultural communication. We even touched on email writing. You’d be surprised how many people mess this up.

Meeting Skills: Now, this was a game-changer. Meetings are where decisions get made, and if you’re not contributing effectively, you’re just a chair-warmer. The course taught us how to be more than just present in meetings, how to actually contribute and be a part of the decision-making process.

Trust and Credibility: Lastly, we discussed how to build trust and credibility. These are the building blocks of any relationship, personal or professional. Without trust, you’re basically talking to a wall.

So what’s the plan now? Well, sharing is in my nature. Whether it’s my expertise in digital marketing, programming, or even things like badminton coaching, I’m all for it. Especially here in Malaysia and Singapore, where I’ve spent so many years, I want to give back. Got a family and a little one to think about, and I want to set an example for them too. Life’s too short to hoard knowledge, so if you’re down to learn, I’m here to teach. Let’s make the most of it.
