Data Collection Skills Gained

Learned how to process json formatted data, traverse nested data using nested iteration, and extract values from nested data.

Learned how to use the map and filter functions in combination with functions to transform or filter out data and store the resulting data in a new object.

Learned how to accumulate data using a list comprehension.

Learned how to access data from a few APIs, cache data that you have requested, and also learned how to read and work with other APIs that were not touched on in the module.

Course Perspective

Just wrapped up the Data Collection and Processing with Python course, and I’m buzzing with excitement. You see, I’ve always had this quirk—I get my hands deep into the subject matter before even stepping foot in a formal course. Certificates are just paper; what you really learn is what counts.

I’ve been navigating the digital marketing and programming seas for years, but this course was a whole new voyage. It’s so specialized and intricate that it’s like unearthing hidden treasure, and that’s what fuels my curiosity.

So, let’s break down the tech stuff. First up, JSON-formatted data. This course taught me how to not just process it but also traverse nested data using nested iteration. That’s like learning the language of data itself.

And then there’s the magic of Python’s map and filter functions. Ever wanted to transform or filter out data and store it somewhere new? Well, now I can do just that. It’s like having a magic wand but for data.

List comprehension? Yep, learned how to accumulate data using that too. It’s a neat way to pack a whole bunch of logic into a single line of code.

But the crown jewel? Learning to work with APIs. Not just accessing them, but also caching data that I’ve requested. And the course even introduced me to working with APIs that weren’t covered in the module, which is like a bonus round.

Now, why does all this matter, especially for someone who’s been living in Malaysia and Singapore for years? Because it’s not just about the paycheck—it’s about delivering real, tangible value. These data collection and processing skills are game-changers in understanding what people genuinely need.

As time goes by (yeah, I’m getting older and have a cute kid to think about), my focus is shifting more and more towards giving back. Whether it’s sharing insights into digital marketing, programming, or even things like badminton and red wine, I’m all in.

So, what’s next? I’m taking these new skills and applying them to real-world projects. The goal is to share knowledge and make lives better. Time’s ticking, and I’d rather spend it making a meaningful impact than wasting it on trivial pursuits. And thanks to this course, I’ve got a whole new set of tools to do just that.
