Course Perspective

Just wrapped up the Communication in the 21st Century Workplace course, and it’s like discovering a hidden combo move in a fighting game. You know how I am—I always go hands-on with any subject before even stepping into a formal course. Certificates? They’re just shiny paper. What matters in the IT or digital marketing world is what you can actually do, not what a piece of paper says you can.

So, I’ve been in the digital marketing and programming space for ages, but this course? It’s a fresh angle and something most people might not fully grasp, which makes it that much more intriguing to me.

Now, let’s break it down. The course kicked off by differentiating between the five working generations and how they prefer to communicate. It’s like learning to speak multiple dialects of the same language. Each generation has its own lingo, and the course taught me how to be fluent in all of them.

Next up, effective techniques for communicating with a diverse workforce. Given that I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in Malaysia and Singapore, understanding how to communicate across different cultures and backgrounds is a big win for me.

The course also touched on the perks of different work environments—whether in-person, virtual, or a mix of both. It’s like knowing which battlefield to choose when you’re setting up for a multiplayer game. Each has its pros and cons, and the course equipped me to make the best call.

Lastly, the concept of a ‘flexing’ communication strategy was a highlight. It’s all about adapting your style to better sync with your team, sort of like switching game tactics on the fly.

Why does all this matter? Because I’m all about sharing what I know. I’ve got a growing family and a kid, and as time goes by, I find myself wanting to give back more—be it in digital marketing, programming, or even in my hobbies like badminton and red wine.

So, what’s next on the agenda? Taking these newly acquired communication skills into the real world. I’ve got a lot of sharing to do, and this course has given me a new set of tools to make it happen. Time’s ticking, and I’m excited to use what I’ve learned to make a real impact.
